Women’s representation in banking sector high in 2018 – Planning Ministry

The percentage of women representation in banking sector increased in 2018, said the Ministry of Planning.

In this regard, the ministry uncovered that the banking sector is followed by the companies listed on the Egyptian Exchange and then the public enterprise sector.

This came in the annual Women on Boards Observatory Report for 2018 released by the Planning Ministry in cooperation with the National Council for Women (NCW) and the American University in Cairo with the participation of several other bodies.

In a statement on Thursday, Planning Minister Hala el Saeed said the report explains that a total of 54 qualified women are needed annually to join boards in Egypt to reach 2030 target.

Saeed pointed out that the report indicated that the percentage of women representation on boards in the banking sector reaches 11.4%, while in the Egyptian Exchange sector is 10.2% and in the public enterprise sector stands at 8.3%.

Saeed said that there are 256 women on boards in the sectors included in the report, which represents 9% of board members.
