Wazir, Assar discuss rates of developing railways

Minister of Transport Kamel el Wazir and Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed el Assar discussed on Wednesday 20/3/2019 rates of implementing the projects which are currently being implemented by the Ministry of Military Production to develop the transport system and railways.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Military Production, Assar asserted that cooperation between the two ministries reflected the integration among state’s institutions to meet the needs of citizens and promote the systems of transportation.

Meanwhile, Wazir asserted that the meeting aimed at outlining a swift mechanism to increase the rates of implementation in the joint projects between the two ministries.

He noted that construction works of some 295 level crossings should be finalized in March 2020, control systems are expected to be completed in June 2020, while upgrading of 86 railways stations are due this year.

Also, the Military Production Ministry is expected to finish the duality of Sohag desert road at a length of 15 kilometers, Wazir added.

The two sides asserted the necessity of accelerating technical works in fixing around 20 motors and around 120 locomotives.

The Ministry of Transport has already reached an agreement to purchase 100 new locomotives with a fund from the European Reconstruction and Development Bank.
