US embassy warns of possible clashes

The U.S. embassy has warned its citizens in Egypt of the likelihood that marches organized by the Muslim Brotherhood on Tuesday could turn into violent confrontations.
In a statement posted on its website, the embassy said it is closing at 2 pm, and called on its citizens to avoid areas where large gatherings are taking place.
"As a matter of general practice, U.S. citizens should avoid areas where large gatherings may occur. Even demonstrations or events intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence."
"U.S. citizens in Egypt are urged to monitor local news reports and to plan their activities accordingly," the statement said.
It also urged its citizens to follow local news reports, plan their activities accordingly and stay alert.
