Strategy under way to increase production of oil refineries — minister

Petroleum Minister Tarek el Molla said on Sunday 24/3/2019 that his ministry has a strategy for increasing the production of oil refineries to meet the local demand.

The strategy is also meant to improve the quality of oil products and services offered to citizens, Molla told a meeting of the general assembly of Middle East Oil Refinery (MIDOR) to review 2018 business results.

He asserted the importance of constant follow-up and periodical maintenance of production units to keep operational their capacities and to upgrade their competence to be in line with quality, safety and environment standards.

MIDOR chairman Gamal El Qaraesh said the company managed in 2018 to operate the oil refinery in full capacity.

It refined around 43.8 million barrels and produced over 5 million tons of various oil products, he said, adding that around 1.8 million tons were exported to countries including Italy, Spain and Britain.

A plan to expand the production by around 60% is going on as scheduled, he noted.
