Sisi: Egypt keen on boosting relations with EU

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reiterated on Monday 25/2/2019 Egypt’s keenness on boosting relations with the European Union, particularly in the economic field.

The president made the remarks during a meeting with President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker on the sidelines of the first Arab League-European Union Summit, held in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh.

“The European Union is Egypt’s number-one trade partner,” presidential spokesman Bassam Rady quoted Sisi as saying.

The president further stressed the importance of increasing the European investments in Egypt in the coming period.

Juncker, for his part, hailed the European Union’s strong relations with Egypt, saying that the European bloc is keen on going ahead with boosting cooperation ties with Egypt at all levels in the coming period.

He further praised efforts exerted by Egypt under President Sisi to achieve economic development and fight terrorism and illegal migration.

He added that the European Union will continue to coordinate with Egypt regarding regional and international issues in light of Egypt’s presidency of the African Union.

The two sides also discussed the latest developments of the Libyan and Syrian crises and stressed the importance of maintaining Arab-European coordination to overcome common challenges.
