Sisi: Arab-European summit ‘historic’

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi Monday 25/2/2019 described the Arab-European summit as “historic”, not only for being the first to gather Arab and European leaders but also for the issues tackled frankly, constructively and fruitfully over two days.

Addressing a press conference held at the closing of the 1st Arab League-European Union Summit, president Sisi said “we were very glad to have welcomed kings, princes, heads of state and government of the brotherly and friendly Arab and European nations and President of the European Council Donald Tusk, the Arab League secretary general and the president of the European Commission and everyone during the historic Sharm El Sheikh summit.”

“Over two days the summit tackled issues related to promoting partnership between the two sides and ways to deal jointly with challenges, whether international or regional. All that under the title ‘In Stability we Invest’,” he said.

“The discussions went on in a constructive atmosphere full of cooperation, frankness, amicability and a genuine wish to reach tangible progress in all files of common concern. This has contributed to bringing closer viewpoints regarding these issues,” he added.

“The second day’s session was an excellent opportunity to leaders of both sides to interact and directly exchange points of view which had a good impact on building new relations on the one hand and boosting standing ones on the other,” he said.

“During the summit, the Arab leaders expounded their views clearly and frankly on key issues that are a priority to us, mainly the Palestinian issue, which is the number one Arab cause, means of confronting terrorism comprehensively and the need to reach a political settlement to numerous crises in the region. All that aimed at enhancing stability in our common geographical sphere,” he added.
