Section of ancient wine press found in Beheira

A mission of the supreme antiquities council has uncovered a fresh section of an ancient wine press in Beheira, north of Cairo.

The new discovery includes a large fence, a residence and storage units in the Terogi archaeological site in Abu el Matamir township, said the council’s chief Dr. Mostafa Waziri on Sunday 27/1/2019 .

The storage units were built with thick brick walls in different areas, he said

Small blocks were also found in the site, said the Egyptian antiquities sector’s head Ayman Ashmawy.

The blocks were used to help control proper temperature for preserving wine in the industry which was famous in the Greco-Roman times, he added.
