Parlt approves appointment of Gazzar as housing minister

The House of Representatives under Ali Abdel Aal approved on Thursday the appointment of Essam el Gazzar as the country’s housing minister.

Abdel Aal made clear that under Article 147 of the Constitution and Article 129 of the parliament’s statute the president of the country can make a ministerial reshuffle after consultations with the prime minister and refer it to the parliament for approval.

At least one third of lawmakers must approve the reshuffle to come into force.

Gazzar replaces former Housing Minister Mustafa Madbouli, who became the prime minister in June 2018 and had been serving in both positions until Gazzar’s appointment.

Gazzar had been appointed as deputy housing minister on January 14.

He also served as chairman of the General Organization of Physical Planning which is affiliated with the Housing Ministry.
