Parliamentary elections to be held before presidential: Adly Mansour

The transitional roadmap will continue as planned in accordance to the constitutional declaration, said Interim President Adly Mansour in a conference yesterday with the media, stressing that parliamentary elections will occur before presidential elections.

Mansour sees, however, that the Constitution shall not contain an article on the electoral system, leaving that for the law.

He also praised the role of the media in the 30 June protests in uncovering “the truth” and delivering the news to the people.

During the conference, both media figures Mosatafa Bakry and Mohamed Sherdy expressed their opposing views on the parliamentary electoral system. While Bakry thought that the individual system of elections is necessary to keep figures belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood from getting any seats, Sherdy argued that the list system is better to support partisan participation.

Mansour also said he decided not to travel to New York to participate in the meetings of the General Assembly of the United Nations to be held this month, in response to advice from Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy, so that countries hostile to Egypt would not take advantage of the situation and try embarrassing Egypt.
