Nigeria/Egypt: Afcon Qualifiers – Egypt Coach Names Five Foreign-Based Pros for Nigeria Match

Egypt’s national team coach, Hector Cuper, has called up five foreign-based players for the upcoming 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The “Fantastic Five” called up for the double-header against the Super Eagles are Mohamed Salah (Roma-Italy), Mohamed Elneny (Arsenal-England), Ahmed Hassan Kouka (Sporting Braga- Portugal), Mahmoud Trezeguet’ Hassan (Anderlecht-Belgium) and Amr Warda (Panetolikos – Greek).

Egypt and Nigeria will battle it out on the 25th of March in Kaduna in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers before playing the follow-up match four days later in Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria.

It is understood that the Pharaohs’ full squad, including home-based players, will be released on Tuesday.

Interestingly, while Egypt is calling up just five foreign-based pros, Nigeria interim Coach, Samson Siasia has invited 20 foreign-based players for the same game.

Egypt presently hold the ace in Group G, leading with six points having, after conveniently winning their first two games. They are two points ahead of second-placed Nigeria.

Only the group winners are guaranteed automatic qualification for the 2017 Cup of Nations.

Having previously played a couple of friendly games to get in shape, Egyptian Football Association member, Ihab Liheta, said on Monday that the country’s national team would start a closed camp on Sunday 20th March while three days later, they will be travelling to Nigeria.
