Following its performance at the just-concluded Perfect World Team Championships in Kuala Lumpur, the Nigerian table tennis team has moved up in the latest table tennis world rankings.

The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), organizers of the championships, said in a statement Tuesday that Nigeria had been ranked 24th in the world and the best team in African.

Prior to the ITTF World Team Championship in Malaysia, Nigeria was rated 32nd in the world behind Egypt which placed 25th.

The ITTF noted that the Nigerian team’s ranking placed the country with 216 points ahead of Egypt, which now occupies 29th position with 208 points.

It added that Nigeria’s outstanding outing at the competition in Malaysia contributed to the rise in its world ranking.

Among women, Egypt remained the best in the continent and is now ranked 29th. The absence of the Nigerian women’s team in Kuala Lumpur have caused their slide to 40th in the world.
