New Zealand attacker had gun licence — PM

The main suspect in the mosque shooting that killed 49 people in New Zealand on Friday had five guns and a gun licence, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has said.

Brenton Tarrant, a 28-year-old Australian, appeared in court on Saturday charged with murder. Two other people are also in custody.

Speaking a day after the shootings in Christchurch, Ardern was quoted by BBC News as saying: “Our gun laws will change.”

She added that none of those detained had a criminal record.

The identities of the dead have not been officially released.

A total of 48 people were wounded in the shootings.
