Mashat: New archaeological discoveries send message of peace, security worldwide

Tourism Minister Rania el Mashat said various archaeological discoveries nationwide send a message of peace and security all over the world.

Mashat was speaking on Friday during an inspection tour of archaeological sites of Tel El Amarna in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Minya, accompanied by Antiquities Minister Khaled el Anani and a raft of ambassadors.

The Tourism Ministry pays great attention to cultural tourism, which is an essential part of campaigns to promote for tourism in Egypt, She noted.

Minya’s new archaeological discoveries place it on Egypt’s map of tourist attractions, the minister pointed out, adding that upgrading this map falls within the framework of the ministry’s structural reform program which is based on promotion for each tourist destination separately.

Mashat also underscored the importance of the participation of foreign ambassadors in the tour which will be crowned by tomorrow’s announcement of a great new archaeological find in the area.

Anani, for his part, said that the new archaeological discovery is the first one in 2019. It was unearthed during an expedition by Minya University, he added, noting that it is of an ancient cemetery which contains a group of coffins and mummies in Tuna el Gebel area.

He said he expects that the coming years will witness new discoveries in this area that is rich in monuments.

The two ministers are set to hold a press conference tomorrow to announce the new discovery.
