Mallawi’s Anglican church reopened after renovation

Minya governor Qasem Hussein and head of the Evangelical Church Andrea Zaki attended on Wednesday the reopening of the evangelical community’s church in Mallawi in Minya, south of Cairo, after being renovated by the Armed Forces.

Zaki hailed the sectarian co-existence in Egypt.

“The churches and mosques are part of the Egyptian identity and an integral part of the nation,” he said.

He thanked President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for supporting unity between Christians and Muslims and appreciated efforts exerted by the Armed Forces to renovate the church.

The reopening ceremony was attended by key military, religious and security officials, among others.

The church, built over an area of 1,552 square meters, was attacked during riots that took place in Minya governorate in 2013 in the wake of the dispersal of Rabaa Al-Adawiya and Al-Nahda sit-ins.
