Maait: Egypt’s joining of AfCFTA to support national economy

Finance Minister Dr Mohamed Maait said Monday 25/3/2019 Egypt’s joining of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) will support the national economy, voicing hope that Egypt would swiftly finalize the necessary legal and legislative procedures for ratifying the agreement which has so far been signed by 21 African nations.

Twenty-two ratification signatures are needed for the agreement to take effect, he said in statements to MENA on the sidelines of the 52nd meetings of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the African finance, planning and economic development ministers conference, currently in session here for two days.

As for Egypt’s joining of the agreement, Maait said the Egyptian economy is in the growing phase and therefore needs integration with other countries and Egypt gives so much attention to Africa and Africa in turn needs Egypt and its supporting programs of the continent.
