LEAGUE COUNCIL SUPPORTIVE OF UAE’S SOVEREIGNTY OVER ITS THREE ISLANDS

The Arab League ministerial council on Friday reiterated its firm stances denouncing Iran’s occupation of three UAE islands while supporting the right of UAE on regional waters, airspace, continental shelf and the economic zone of the isles.

The final communique of the 145th regular session said that any decisions or activities carried out by Iran on the islands are null and do not change any of the historical or legal facts that affirm the right of the UAE on the three islands.

It also called on Iran to respond to the calls made by the UAE to resolve the issue through direct negotiations or resort to the International Court of Justice.

Furthermore, the council condemned Iran’s illegal opening of two offices in the island of Abu Musa; the other two islands being Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb, calling for their removal.

It also voiced denouncement of the intended inspection tour to the islands by members of the national security and foreign policy committee at the Iranian Shura council.

The council agreed on enlisting the islands issue on the agenda as a fixed item.
