The Foreign Ministry stressed on Wednesday 26/2/2020 Egypt’s commitment to the track of US-sponsored negotiations on Ethiopia’s dam particularly that the current meeting in Washington had been agreed upon by the three countries concerned.

Answering a query by a reporter on news of Ethiopia’s non-participation in the ministerial meeting slated for Thursday and Friday in Washington on the dam issue Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez said that the meeting aimed at adding the final touches to an agreement on filling and operating the dam that was crystallized by Washington and the World Bank in light of rounds of negotiations held by the three nations (Egypt Ethiopia and Sudan) since the first Washington-hosted meeting on November 6 2019.

The Egyptian foreign minister and the minister of water resources and irrigation will take part in the ministerial meeting called for by the US administration in appreciation of the constructive role played by Washington over the past few months in terms of helping the three countries concerned to reach the aspired agreement he added.
