Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry conducts phone call with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a telephone conversation with his US counterpart Mike Pompeo on Monday, August 19, to discuss the various dimensions of strategic relations between Egypt and the United States, as well as regional issues of common interest.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Counselor Ahmed Hafez said the two ministers discussed ways of boosting cooperation between Egypt and the United States in various fields so as to reflect the depth and strategic nature of Egyptian-American relations and achieve the common interests of both countries. The two also confirmed the continuation of close coordination between the two countries in the field of combating and eliminating terrorism.

Hafez added the two ministers exchanged views on various crises in the Middle East region, topped by the Palestinian issue, whereby Minister Shoukry stressed the need to reach a comprehensive solution to this issue on the basis of a two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions.

The talks also dealt with the crises in Syria, Yemen and Libya, as well as the developments in the Gulf region, whereby Minister Shoukry outlined Egypt’s efforts to realize stability and security and reach peaceful resolutions that achieve the desired stability in the region.

The Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson concluded his remarks by noting that the two ministers agreed to continue consultation and coordination during the coming period on all issues of common concern.
