Food Export Council seeks to double exports

The Food Export Council aims at doubling its food and agricultural exports, Executive Director of the council Manar Nasr said on Friday 12/07/2019.

The volume of food exports are currently standing at $2.8 billion, Nasr told a meeting with agricultural producers in Aswan, where she announced “Feed the Future Egypt” project, funded by the USAID, which targets 14 governorates nationwide; seven governorates in Upper Egypt and seven others in Lower Egypt.

The plans is meant to bolster the marketing system of horticultural crops, improving the capacity of smallholder farmers, manufacturers, and institutions working in the field high-value crops with aim of improving the competitiveness of agricultural processing in Egypt, she said.

The project, to be implemented over five years, will increase the average incomes for more than 120,000 smallholder farmers, double incomes of at least 25,000 smallholder farmers, and to create 12,000 sustainable agricultural jobs in addition to improving irrigation efficiency for more than 22,000 hectares, she added.
