FM Shoukry Participates in AU High-Level Committee Meeting on Libya in Addis Ababa

On February 10, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry participated, on behalf of the President, in the 7th meeting of the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya, which was held on the sidelines of the 32nd African Summit in Addis Ababa and was attended by Ghassan Salame, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to Libya.

The Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Counselor Ahmed Hafez, stated that the session featured a survey of the latest developments on the Libyan stage and efforts to support national consensus between all Libyan parties in order to push forth a political solution to resolve the crisis, in addition to efforts aiming to regain security and stability all over the country.

During the session, FM Shoukry emphasized Egypt’s complete commitment to supporting brothers in Libya on all fronts. He noted the determinants of Egypt’s firm position toward the Libyan crisis, which is based on pushing forth a political solution to resolve the problem, while maintaining the unity and sovereignty of the Libyan state, as well as, the safety of its territories.

Counselor Hafez concluded his remarks saying that the President of the Republic of Congo, the current Chairman of the Committee, will present a special report on the meeting’s outcomes to the Summit tomorrow.
