FM calls for countering states supporting terrorism

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday 26/3/2019 called for countering states supporting terrorism.

He made the remarks during a meeting in Washington with Republican Senator Marco Rubio, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Intelligence Committee, Spokesman For the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez said.

During the meeting, Shoukry asserted that Egypt is keen on fostering strategic ties with the US, expressing hope that Washington could increase its support for Cairo to strengthen the country’s capacity in the face of security challenges in the region, the spokesman added.

Also, the Egyptian minister briefed the US Republican senator on the latest political and economic developments in Egypt, in addition to the country’s efforts to combat terrorism and its supporters, the spokesman noted.

The two sides discussed the situation in the Middle East and Egypt’s efforts to reach political settlements to regional crises, notably the Palestinian issue.
