FM, AJC delegation mull ways to revive ME peace process

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Friday 15/02/2019 met a delegation of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) on ways to revive the Middle East peace process.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of Munich Security Conference, also discussed Egyptian efforts to achieve the Palestinian reconciliation, as well as Cairo-Washington strategic relations, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez said in a statement.

The minister detailed the latest developments of the Palestinian cause and efforts exerted to resume peace negotiations between the Palestinians and Israel on the basis of agreed international references and a two-state solution for a lasting, just and comprehensive settlement, he added.

Shoukry stressed the importance of ensuring the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also underlined the pivotal role played by various American circles in activating and boosting US-Egyptian relations, stressing the importance of intensifying coordination and political consultation on regional issues, especially in light of the successive crises, challenges and risks facing the Middle East.
