First African Universities Olympics kick off in Cairo

The first African Universities Olympics, organized by Al Azhar University, kicked off Thursday in Cairo.

Held under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the Olympics are set to run till Monday.

The event is one a series of activities organized by Al Azhar in line with Egypt’s chairmanship of the African Union and its declaration of 2019 the year of African youth.

On Tuesday, Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar inaugurated the regional premises of the Association of African Universities at Al Azhar University.
