Environment minister in talks over African political declaration on biological diversity

Environment Minister Yassmin Fouad met on Thursday 07/03/2019 with African Union Commissioner for Agriculture and Environment Josefa Sako for talks on boosting environmental cooperation to serve the African continent as well as the African political declaration stemming from the 14th conference of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

The meeting came on the sidelines of the minister’s participation in the fourth African Union Climate Resilience Investment Summit, currently in session in Johannesburg.

The AU commissioner welcomed the declaration, suggesting listing it on the agenda of the coming African Union summit in January.

She expressed interest in enhancing cooperation with the Egyptian minister to crystalize President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s initiative to link the three environmental agreements on biological diversity, climate change and desertification together.

The two sides agreed on fostering coordination and holding a workshop to follow up the implementation of the African political declaration on biological diversity.
