Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil El-Araby said in a statement that the free will of the Egyptian people must be answered, and called on all those siding with the will of the people to “bring about the desired change.”

El-Araby said in a statement published on Tuesday that he is following the situation in Egypt “with great interest.” He stressed the need “to give priority to the higher national interests of the Egyptian people” and warned of the danger of “tampering with the future of Egypt and its security and stability.” He also called on those who support the “people’s will” to implement the “desired change, for the sake of Egypt’s future.”

The secretary general called on all national forces and leaders to “reaffirm the commitment to peaceful demonstrations, popular protests and the rejection of violence in all its forms and manifestations.”

El-Araby’s comments follow two days of mass protests across Egypt calling for the resignation of President Mohamed Morsi and early presidential elections.
