CAIRO, Egypt, Sept 18 – Egyptian President, Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi, highly appreciated the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) support for Egypt’s transition towards democracy, it was reported.

The Egyptian president said this in a statement, issued after holding talks with General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Sheikh Mohamed also held discussions with Egyptian Prime Minister, Ibrahim Mehlab.

Egypt’s presidential spokesman, Ehab Badawi, said that, Sheikh Mohamed conveyed to el-Sisi the greetings of UAE President, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

He said that the stance of leadership and people of the UAE “alongside Egypt, embodies the true meaning of Arab brotherhood and common destiny, in addition to the longstanding, strong bilateral ties.”

On his part, the Egyptian president requested Sheikh Mohamed, to convey his greetings and best wishes to Sheikh Khalifa, emphasising that Egypt highly values the UAE’s stance, which is supportive of Egypt’s transition towards democracy and “protection of values of the Egyptian State and people.”

He also said that the threat of terrorism required mobilisation of all Arab and international efforts, in order to avert past mistakes, which helped terrorists to gather, first in Afghanistan and subsequently in Syria and Libya.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi also stressed on the importance of solidarity among Arab countries, to rectify the image of Islam, which was marred by the terrorists, stressing the vital role of Al Azhar Al Sharif, as the minaret of Islamic science and civilisation and a promoter of moderate Islam in this respect.

Both el-Sisi and Sheikh Mohamed shared identical views on the importance of the media, in raising awareness and conveying the truth to Arab people and highlighting contemporary controversial issues.

Scholars should also play their part to explain facts, in order to further enlighten the Arab people to differentiate between the “tolerant religion and fabricated and false statements,” they said.

The Egyptian Presidency statement also commended the UAE for its contribution to Egypt, after the June 30 revolution in many sectors like mining, investment, energy and housing and its significant support for education.
