EGYPTIAN FORCES KILL TERRORIST IN RAID IN CAIRO

CAIRO, Egypt, Apr 6 – Egyptian security forces killed a leader of an outlawed group, during an exchange of fire, while storming a suspected apartment in the Giza governorate, the Interior Ministry said.

Hammam Mohammad Ahmad Attiyah, also known as Fawzi Hussam, leader of Ajnad Misr (Soldiers of Egypt), was killed during the raid on the apartment, ministry spokesman, Major-General Hani Abdullatif said in a statement.

Attiyah, accused of involvement in 26 terrorist attacks in Egypt, was a leading figure in Ansar Beit Al-Maqdes group, but broke away in 2013 and formed Ajnad Misr, and began forming cells, said Abdullatif.

Attiyah trained the cell members on how to manufacture bombs, which were then used in terrorist attacks on police and armed forces, he added.

Security forces seized, from the apartment, a machinegun, four explosive devices, money, computer and materials used to make bombs, he said.
