EGYPTIAN ARMY SEIZES TRUCKLOAD OF EXPLOSIVES BEFORE THEY COULD BE SMUGGLED TO SINAI

CAIRO, Egypt, The Egyptian army, on Sunday, seized a truck loaded with materials for making explosive devices, in North Sinai province, the military said, in a statement.

Meanwhile, in several security raids in North Sinai’s cities of Arish, Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid, the military destroyed a number of extremists’ hideouts, and seized a large number of weapons, ammunition and equipment used for making explosive devices, Egyptian military spokesman, Tamer al-Refaay, said, in the statement.

“The forces also found an amount of electronic devices, cameras, communication devices, extremist-oriented books and documents, and military uniforms, used by the terrorist elements,” al-Refaay said.

Bordering Israel and the Palestinian Gaza Strip, Egypt’s North Sinai province has been the centre of anti-government terrorist attacks, that have killed hundreds of policemen and soldiers, since the military’s removal of former Islamist president, Mohamed Morsi, in July, 2013.

Since then, most of the terrorist operations were claimed by a Sinai-based group loyal to the regional Daesh militant group.

The Egyptian military and police, have killed hundreds of militants and arrested a similar number of suspects, as part of the country’s anti-terror war, declared in 2013, by President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, then army chief, following Morsi’s removal.
