Egypt urges UNSMIL to further engage with Libyan people’s representatives

Egypt has called on the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to further cooperate and engage with the representatives elected by the Libyan people to crystallize a roadmap that is required for getting over the current crisis in the country.

Cairo also lauded the recent humanitarian truce declared by Libyan parties on the occasion of Eidul Adha, which it considers a step on the right track for building confidence among them, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez said on Tuesday.

Egypt reiterated that a comprehensive political solution remains the only way for restoring stability in Libya, Hafez added.

The spokesman called for initiating an inclusive settlement process in Libya based on addressing all fundamental issues in a comprehensive way, atop of which is achieving justice while distributing resources in the north African country and proceeding with efforts for unifying state institutions as well as disarming militias.

Egypt urges all Libyan parties to take a clear stance and be far away from terrorist and criminal groups, he said, condemning the recent suicide blast in Benghazi and expressing his condolences to the victims’ families.
