Egypt plays key role in maintaining Middle East stability — Japanese official

Hiroshi Oka, Director General for Middle East and Africa Affairs at the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs described relations with Egypt as ‘strong’, confirming that Egypt plays key role in maintaining stability in the Middle East amid the challenges that the region is currently facing.

The Japanese official told MENA on Friday 01/03/2019 that Tokyo is well aware of Cairo’s strategic importance.

Oka praised Egypt’s efforts to fight terrorism and extremism, pointing out that stability in the Middle East has direct impact on the international conditions and other countries, including Japan.

Oka said that security conditions in Egypt have been noticeably improved, therefore Japan took a decision to ease its travel warning on Egypt, noting that resuming direct flights between Cairo and Tokyo in 2017 gave a push to the tourism traffic.

Oka voiced his country’s keenness on President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s visit, during which he will participate in Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) that will be held in Yokohama city in August.
