Egypt opens Rafah border crossing for four hours

Egypt partially opened the Rafah border crossing with the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip Saturday.

Egyptian security sources said instructions given from Cairo to officials at the crossing stipulated the crossing would be open to allow humanitarian cases, visa holders and Egyptians coming from Palestine to pass through.

The crossing will be open for four hours to allow passage for around 400 people, until further instructions are received, the source said.

A Palestinian official at Rafah said on Thursday that Egypt informed authorities in Gaza that it would keep the crossing partially open in both directions over the coming days, excluding Friday.

Maher Abu Subha, head of the Gaza border authority, said the crossing would be closed on Friday and reopened Saturday.
