Egypt keen on bolstering cooperation with EU: FM

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry asserted on Monday 6/5/2019 Egypt’s keenness to promote its relations with the European Union (EU).

This came during the minister’s meeting with EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica in Cairo.

The meeting took up means of boosting cooperation in various areas of mutual concern, Foreign Ministry’s Spokesman Ahmed Hafez said, adding that the minister emphasized the need to deepen ties at all levels.

Shoukry posted the commissioner on the latest developments in Egypt, especially the results of an ambitious national economic reform program and Egypt’s vision for achieving comprehensive development, Hafez added.

Shourky stressed that the EU is Egypt’s number one trade and investment partner.

The two sides also discussed several mutual challenges, the spokesman said, noting that Shoukry shed the light on Egypt’s counter-terrorism efforts as well as its effective policies to deal with illegal migration.

Moreover, both officials explored the possibility of establishing a trilateral cooperation that involves the African Union (AU), Hafez further said, adding that the minister briefed the senior EU official on Egypt’s priorities during its current presidency of the African bloc.
