Egypt, Japan FMs mull coordination ahead of TICAD summit

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri on Friday discussed with his Japanese counterpart Taro Kono bilateral ties and joint coordination ahead of the upcoming Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) and G20 summits under Egypt’s current chairmanship of the African Union.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, currently held in Germany.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez said that the foreign minister affirmed Egypt’s pride in the development of the Egyptian-Japanese relations during the past five years, as part of the historic relations between the two countries.

Shoukri stressed the importance that Egypt attaches to the participation of the Japanese prime minister in the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is a witness to the distinguished relations between the two countries.

The meeting touched upon the overall situation in the Middle East, with the foreign minister of Japan affirmed the continued support of his country to the UNRWA.
