Egypt-France joint naval drill kicks off

A joint French-Egyptian navy training drill called Cleopatra-Gapian 2019 started in France on Sunday 31/3/2019 as part of efforts to enhance cooperation between the two nation’s naval forces.

Egyptian units arrived at Toulon Port in France for the joint exercise meant to improve maritime practical performance and increase fighting experience.

Egyptian and French naval forces previously implemented a naval exercise at an Egyptian Red Sea naval base in December 2018 with the participation of the French warship COURBET and several Egyptian naval units.

The naval forces also implemented a scenario to counter threats against maritime security, including terrorist acts, protecting an important cargo ship and exercising the right to visit and inspect suspicious ships.
