Egypt chairs virtual meeting of Arab ministers of culture

Minister of Culture Enas Abdel Dayyem chaired on Monday May 11, 2020, the first extraordinary virtual meeting of the Arab ministers of culture to discuss the cultural impact of the coronavirus crisis in the Arab world.

Held upon the initiative of the Arab League (AL) Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), the meeting took up the latest progress in implementing the resolutions adopted at the 21st conference of the Arab culture ministers, held in Cairo under the chairmanship of the Egyptian minister in October 2018.

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit, Assistant Director-General for Culture of UNESCO Ernesto Ottone Ramírez and Director General of the AL Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) Mohamed Walad Amor attended the meeting, which was held via video conferencing.

Abdel Dayyem stressed that Egypt was among the first countries to embark on all precautionary measures necessary to protect citizens’ heath.

She also gave an outline of her ministry’s electronic initiative dubbed “Stay at Home: Culture in Your Hands”, which aims to encourage citizens to abide by the state’s anti-coronavirus measures to preserve public health and safety while promoting citizen’s awareness of various genres of art.
