Azhar Grand Imam reiterates support for New Zealand Muslims

Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed El Tayyeb reaffirmed readiness to back Muslims in New Zealand.

El Tayyeb on Wednesday met with New Zealand Ambassador in Cairo Greg Lewis, who offered condolences over Christchurch shootings that left at least 50 people dead a few days ago.

The Grand Imam expressed Azhar’s readiness to offer scholarships for Muslims in New Zealand and train preachers to face extremist thoughts and ideologies and to spread peace and coexistence.

The ambassador pointed out that Muslims in New Zealand are part of the society, reviewing measures taken by the government of New Zealand after the shootings.

El Tayyeb expressed his deep sadness for the shootings, appreciating the measures taken by New Zealand’s Prime Minister and government to avoid recurrence of such terror attacks.
