Awqaf Minister: Plan prepared to boost Egypt’s relation with Africa

Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa said on Sunday 3/2/2019 that his ministry has a plan to boost Egypt’s relations with Africa in 2019 as Egypt will hold the rotating chairmanship of the African Union.

The plan comes upon directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to enhance cooperation with the continent, Gomaa said, adding that his ministry is keen on promoting religious cooperation with African states out of its approach to spread the teachings of moderate Islam in the whole world.

He noted that that the ministry dispatches preachers to a number of African countries.

Egypt has cooperation agreements in the religious affairs domains with seven African countries including Tanzania and Liberia, he said.

Cairo has full supervision on the Islamic center in Tanzania, he also noted. The center was established in 1964.
