Awqaf minister opens international Holy Quran competition

Minister of Awqaf Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa and Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam inaugurated on Saturday the 26th international Holy Quran competition on behalf of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli.

The one-week contest, held at the headquarters of Al Awqaf academy in Giza’s 6th of October city, is organized by the ministry under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

As many as 77 contestants and judges from 51 countries participate in the event, including 60 competitors from various countries of the world in addition to six Egyptians.

For the first time, 30 African states take part in the competition, which comes in line with Egypt’s chairmanship of the African Union.

The total prize money for this year’s contest is EGP 1.02 million.
