Assar to German min.: Sisi pays great attention to environment, public health

Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed el Assar on Tuesday 22/1/2019 asserted that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi pays great attention to the two files of environment and public health, citing that his ministry and the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) are working on the manufacture of waste-recycling equipment.

Assar made the remarks during a meeting with German Environment Minister Svenja Schulze to discuss means of fostering bilateral cooperation in the area of solid waste management.

The meeting was attended by Local Development Minister Mahmoud Sharawi, Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad, AOI Chairman Abdel Moneim Altras and Egyptian Ambassador in Berlin Badr Abdel Aati.

During the meeting, the two sides probed ways of cementing bilateral cooperation in the field of solid waste management, through encouraging the German private sector to invest in this promising sector.

They also reviewed the possibility of enhancing Egyptian-German cooperation through the national program for solid waste management in Egypt, in addition to setting up training programs, with a view to getting acquainted with the latest German techniques in the fields of biogas, safe waste disposal and climate change mitigation.

They touched on several urgent environment issues in the two countries, including efforts to reduce pollution by preserving sustainable resources and generating electricity from clean energy sources.

Assar said that Egypt seeks to make good use of the German technology in the environment field.

For her part, the Egyptian environment minister stressed the long-standing Egyptian-German relations in the domains of environment and politics.

Fouad added that President Sisi gives high priority to the environment file, as evidenced by his continuous directives to put into consideration the environmental dimension when implementing all mega projects.

For her part, Schulze hailed the efforts of the Egyptian environment minister during the 24th Conference of the Parties’ meetings in Poland, and her successful presidency of a high-level session on climate finance to reach a consensus between the developed countries and the developing countries with regard to curbing climate change effects.

Schulze said that her ministry is willing to support the Egyptian Environment Ministry in the field of waste management and the production of alternative fuels.
