Armed Forces to celebrate Martyr Day on Saturday

The Armed Forces will celebrate the Martyr Day on March 9, the martyrdom day of former chief of staff Abdel Monem Riad in 1969.

Riad was killed along with several of his aides in an Israeli mortar attack on March 9, 1969.

Director of the Veterans and War Victims Association Bassem Ezzat said that Minister of Defense along with the Army’s top brass officers are expected to lay a wreath on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Ezzat said that many sports events will be held during this day along with shows by military bands.
