Arab League welcomes U.S.-Russian agreement on Syria

Arab League Chief Nabil al-Araby welcomed the U.S.-Russian agreement over chemical weapons in Syria as a step to pave the road for political compromise over the Syrian crisis.

He also argued that the agreement sets a better atmosphere for the Geneva II conference.

In a statement on Sunday, Araby called on all influential parties to play roles through UN Security Council to guarantee a ceasefire in Syria, help the agreement succeed, provide medical and humanitarian aid to the Syrian people and achieve peaceful compromise for the situation in Syria during the Geneva negotiations.

Araby had earlier called on Security Council to bear responsibility for what happens in Syria.
