Al-Sisi meets army commanders as deadline approaches

Defence Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met with armycommanders Wednesday morning, according to Sky News Arabia.

Officials at the meeting reportedly discussed the plan of action in the wake of President Mohamed Morsy's speech late Tuesday in which he reaffirmed claims to hislegitimacy as elected president despite continued opposition protests demanding he stand down and hold early presidential elections.

Sisi gave Egypt's political establishment a 48-hour ultimatum to respond to the people's demands on Monday afternoon as protests pressuring Morsy swept Egypt.

The defence minister said that the army would enforce its own roadmap for the country's future should politicians fail to end the crisis by 4.30 pm on Wednesday.
