Africa: Egypt FM Meets African Counterparts On Issues, Ties

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, who is visiting Kigali of Rwanda, conferred with his counterparts of Sudan, Uganda and Ghana on Wednesday13/7/2016.

Shoukry discussed with Sudan’s Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al Ghandour regional and international efforts exerted to contain the current crisis in South Sudan, said Ahmed Abu Zeid, the spokesman for the Egyptian foreign ministry.

They warned of repercussions of the South Sudanese conflict including a possible relapse after the peace agreement which was signed by the country’s rival leaders in August 2015.

Egypt’s top diplomat held meetings also with Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa of Uganda on the file of the Nile waters and the relations among the Nile Basin countries, said the spokesman.

Preparations for planned meetings of the joint committee were also mulled. The talks are slated for August.

With Ghana’s Foreign Minister Hanna Tetteh, Shoukry probed counter-terror efforts in Sahel and Sahara region as well as arrangements for joint committee meetings.

The talks were held on the sidelines of meetings of the executive council of the African Union.
