1st OIC cultural festival kicks off in Cairo

The first edition of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) cultural and artistic festival kicked off in Cairo on Tuesday 5/2/2019.

Addressing the opening ceremony, held at Cairo Opera House, Culture Minister Enas Abdel Dayem said the festival reflects Egypt’s status as the heart of the Islamic world.

Cairo always defends the Arab and Islamic identity, she added.

The festival aims at boosting cooperation among the OIC member states and peoples through shedding light on their folkloric heritage, as well as promoting Islam’s noble values that advocate tolerance and discard violence, extremism and terrorism, Abdel Dayem said.

For his part, OIC Secretary General Yousef bin Ahmad Al Othaimeen thanked Egypt for hosting the first edition of the OIC cultural and artistic festival.

He added that the UAE will host the next edition.

Eighteen countries are taking part in the festival, which runs from February 5 to 9.
