Sisi Discusses in Italy Partnership With EU

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held on Monday 24112014 an important session of talks with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano at the outset of a European tour that will take him also to France.

The session focused on means of establishing a real partnership between Egypt and the member states of European Union (EU) to serve the interests of both sides.

Italy is currently taking the presidency of the EU.

Official welcoming ceremonies were held in honor of the President at the Italian Presidential Palace.

Talks started with a tecircte-agrave- tecircte session followed by an expanded session at the level of the two delegations, which dealt with means of boosting relations between the two countries and cooperation in the economic, investments, transport, industry and tourism fields.

The two sides stressed the importance of coordination and consultation on regional and international issues of mutual concern, mainly the Mideast peace process, developments in Libya and Syria and combating terrorism.

President Sisi also had talks with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi on economic and tourist cooperation, combating terrorism and extremism.

The President also met the speaker of the Italian Senate.

During the meeting with the Italian PM, Sisi said the Egyptian state was committed to paying the dues of all international companies working in Egypt, adding the Egyptian government was working to create a better climate for investment in the country.

He said Egypt would soon adopt the unified investment law and simplify measures for foreign investors. He said the Italian PM will attend Egypt’s economic conference in March 2015.

Addressing a joint press conference with the Italian PM, Sisi said Egypt did interfere only for the interest of the Libyan people with the aim of avoiding Libya’s fragmentation.

He said that Egypt supported the will of the Libyan People and army, stressing that Egypt did not interfere in Libya but would never accept turning Libya into a base for terrorism.

The President stressed that his talks with the Italian premier tackled ways to combat terrorism and illegal migration.

“We agreed to seriously deal with these issues,” Sisi said during the press conference.

Sisi said he expected a real positive response from the European countries and further support for Egypt during the coming period.

On the Mideast peace process, Sisi called for giving new hope to the Palestinians to bring an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on the two-state solution.

He called on both parties to draw lessons from the peace process between Egypt and Israel.

“Terrorism has started as a result of the frustration of the Palestinian people,” Sisi underlined.

Italian premier voiced appreciation over Sisi’s visit that represented an important transitional stage in the relations between Egypt and Italy.

Renzi voiced sympathy with Egypt over the recent terrorist attacks in the country, adding that Italy and Egypt were working to combat terrorism.

He praised reforms carried out by the President and the re-launch of a raft of important development projects in Egypt.
