Seventh-Day Aentists Say Excluded By Article in Personal Status Law From Christian Denominations

Egypt’s Seventh-day Aentist Copts announced Monday their objection to an article in the personal status law draft for non-Muslims, which dismisses them as a Christian denomination.

The Aentist denomination was “shocked” after reviewing article 112 of the personal status law draft, which does not recognise the denomination as Christian, which is completely unfounded, state-run MENA quoted them as saying.

“Our wise government recognises the Seventh-day Aentists as a Christian denomination entitled to exercise its religious rituals and provide educational and health services to the whole society,” they added. Therefore, upholding this article contradicts the state’s recognition of us.

The denomination called upon the minister of transitional justice and the designated committee not to approve excluding them from the Christian denominations, as stated in the article.
