Salafi Nour Party to Announce Its Favourite Candidate On Saturday

The Salafi Nour Party will convene on Saturday to announce the name of the presidential candidate it will support in the upcoming presidential election, said Osama Shokr, a senior member of the party.

Younis Makhioun, Nour Party President, told Aswat Masriya exclusively last week that the party’s decision is an institutional one.

It is enough for the party that the candidate does not oppose Islam and is religious as Egyptians are, Makhioun said.

We have set criteria for choosing the candidate we will support and we will see how each candidate fits these criteria, he explained.

Makhioun added that his party will make “the decision that is best for the country”.

Egypt’s Presidential Election Commission (PEC) said that Hamdeen Sabahi and Abdel Fattah al-Sisi are the official two presidential contenders in the upcoming election, which will take place on 26 and 27 May.

The Nour Party came second in the 2011 parliamentary elections after the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party got the majority of seats.
