Parliamentary Elections to Be Held At the End of the Year – PM

Egypt’s parliamentary elections will be held “in time” at the end of the year, Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb reportedly said.

Mehleb told Orbit satellite network on Monday night that the state is currently making logistical preparations for the parliamentary elections, reported state-run news agency MENA. He added that the “modern state” will be complete with holding the election, stressing that there is no intention to delay them.

The floor for the parliamentary elections is yet to be opened. The Supreme Electoral Commission said over two weeks ago it was holding meetings and taking measures to be able to open the floor for the elections.

Former Interim President Adli Mansour issued on June 6 a law governing the coming parliamentary elections, shortly before ceding power. The law has been met with criticism by several political parties which have been calling for its amendment before the elections are held.
