Mahlab – Egypt Gives Special Attention to Climate Change Impacts

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab said that Egypt attaches a special attention to the files of environment and confronting the impact of climate change on the African continent.

Mahlab’s remark was made in his speech before the New Partnership for Africa Development (NEPAD) meeting held in Johannesburg on the sidelines of the African Union Summit.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi delegated Mahlab to attend the summit on his behalf.

Mahlab reviewed the outcome of the last meeting of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment that was held in Cairo in March, 2015.

He asserted that Egypt, as one of the founders of NEPAD, supported efforts aimed at achieving the development goals of Africa, especially in the agricultural sector and infrastructure.

He pointed out to Egypt’s contribution to promoting the African infrastructure, highlighting the launch of an agreement for establishing a free trade zone among Africa’s main trading blocs: the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the East African Community (EAC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).

The Egyptian delegation participating in the summit includes Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Minister of Environment Khaled Fahmy.
