International Campaign to Stop Sale of Sekhemka

The Antiquities Ministry launched an international campaign aiming at halting sale of Sekhemka’s statue at a London auction.

The ministry managed to collect about 200 signatures from different nationalities, including Egypt, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Canada.

The ministry urges all those, who are interested in Egyptian antiquities, to participate in that campaign.

Antiquities Minister Mamdouh el-Damaty said that the Ministry addressed the Foreign Ministry to take action to stop the sale.

The Antiquities Ministry has been following up the case with astonishment and has also addressed the International Council of Museums (ICOM) to stop the sale, which breaches all museum ethics.

It is to go to auction at the world famous Christie’s auction house in London as part of its Exceptional Sale 2014.
